Seven slices of Moo Dang in a row.
Fresh cucumber slices, a sprig of green onion, and cilantro leaves.
Four slices of Chinese sausage (Kun-Chiang)
Two peeled hard-boiled eggs with bright yellow yolks and firm whites.
a few slices of crispy pork belly (Mhoo-Krob)

Driven by a desire to share the flavors of our youth, Khao Moo Dang is a tribute to the affordable, everyday comfort meals beloved by Thais β€” especially popular by students and working-class communities across Thailand.

While Khao Moo Dang is undeniably part of Thai street food culture today, it was introduced to Thailand by Chinese immigrants and gradually adapted with local flavors and presentation, resulting in the β€œdirty delicious” dish we enjoy today.

Steamed jasmine rice piled with juicy red pork, Chinese sausage, crispy pork belly, and a hard-boiled egg, drizzled with sweet, savory gravy made from pork drippings, soy sauce and spices. Served with cucumber, cilantro, and a kick of chili in black soy vinegar.

While Khao Moo Dang is loved for its comforting rice version, many stalls also serve Ba-Mhee Moo Dang β€” red pork egg noodles β€” giving locals a tasty choice between rice or noodles, a variation that has become a beloved favorite among Thais.

"What started as conversations over a few beers turned into the rice-and- pork shop we all missed from our childhood. Despite the misconception that people aren't adventurous eaters, the response and support from our locals have proven that Portland is a true food city, full of people with experienced and adventurous tastes," said Pork and Rice Head Members.
